One of Kochi's biggest problems which is waste treatment also has a solution in the budget. The GCDA are planning to build a waste treatment center in Brahamapuram for Rs. 50 lakhs. There are also plans to renovate the Ambedkar Stadium in Ernakulam, and also build a mall near the stadium for Rs. 25 lakh
The budget features renovation and construction of many roads. The GCDA in the budget have said that they will build a road which will connect to the Edappally railway station for Rs. 16 lakhs. A skywalk will be built in Marine Drive and Menaka, which will also have shopping centres with escalators.
Hey! The budget has many other potentially good revenue generating projects like the marine tunnel aquarium and entertainment park which will have a 7D theatre, a penguin enclosure, and an aquarium at a cost of Rs. 85 crore. The GCDA have also allocated money for developing satellite cities near the Ring Road and in Alangad, and also for Palarivattom junction, and for repairing the Kaloor-Kadavanthra Road.
Rs. 6 crore has been allocated for the Ring Road project and Rs. 2 crore for the Kaloor-Kadavanthra Road. This project will be completed in one and a half years. The GCDA have also included a new bridge to be built over the Thevara-Perandoor canal in the budget.
Oh yes, there are a lot of interesting new projects that the GCDA has earmarked for this year and the next. They are projecting a surplus of 8.10 crore, and expenditure of 197. 85 crore and an income of 205.95 crore. The GCDA are also expecting a revenue of Rs. 44.24 crore. In the budget they have planned to establish a school for town planning, new tourism projects, and shopping and residential complexes. Before starting the school, the GCDA plan to get sanctions from the AICTE and the state government. Rs. 50 lakh has been allocated for this school which will be set up in a 5 acre land, and the school will offer PG and degree courses.
