General info about Malakpet locality

Q: Hey, I’m shifting soon from Kochi to live in Hyderabad. My office happens to be in Malakpet, which I’m completely unaware of. I need some more info regarding this locality so that I’ll know whether to live there or not.

I heard they are also planning to make a new vent worth Rs 10 cr near the road under bridge in Malakpet. This is because the metro rail line from Miyapur to L B Nagar is to pass from here. And the metro station of Malakpet will also come up here. So this vent is necessary.

Also, the Malakpet road is under construction and it is being extended to reduce the traffic congestion here, since its a part of the NH9 which goes to Mumbai. Once widened the convenience factor of this locality will increase a lot. Market prices will also rise.

See, if you want to rent a place in Malakpet, then you might have to settle for an independent house. This is because large-scale construction of apartments and multistoried buildings in Malakpet has begun only recently. The rates over here are not that much, but then neither are the facilities. It is a relatively cheap neighborhood that has seen much development only in recent times. Car showrooms, hospitals, shopping complexes, and swimming pools are all available in this locality. You might not like some parts of it though, as they happen to be quite underdeveloped. I’m guessing an apartment will cost you around Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 4,000 per square feet.

Malakpet was named after Malik Yakoob, a renowned official working under the Golconda King. This area has one of the biggest and oldest market yards in the city, which is still functional. Known locally as the Gunj, this marketplace was actually the site of the Mehboob Mansion, a palace belonging to the Nizam. It has since become quite dilapidated. Some parts of Malakpet are more developed than the others, such as Race Course Road, Moosarambhag, and Saleem Nagar. The other parts, are relatively unsafe, and you may find yourself coming across certain unsocial elements during night time. It is quite a densely crowded area, and you’ll find a number independent houses as well as apartments over there.

Hi! I’m a resident of Hyderabad, and yes, I do happen to know a little bit about Malakpet. This locality is one of the older parts of the city, and lies close to the historic Charminar and its surrounding areas. Malakpet is more of a middle-class locality with property values being much more affordable as compared to the more affluent parts of Hyderabad. It falls on the Hyderabad to Vijayawada highway, and in that way, is well connected by road to other parts of the town. This area is well-developed with a variety of amenities available for its residents.
