While I totally agree that it is wrongful encroachment on the part of the settlers to take up land that has been reserved by the corporation, it is also quite sad that the body has onky been able to claim back 15 out of the 480 + plots. Mostly the corporation has demolished existing encroachments to reclaim the land, such as the swimmimg pool of the Mint Homes property. Alternatively, the corporation has introduced a proposal to gather all residential welfare associations and voluntary organizations to help develop reserve sites into parks. Of course after the meetings, the idea remained just that - an idea on paper.

Yes, it is sad that the sites reserved by the government within corporation limits for parks and playgrounds has been encroached upon, and nothing is being done about it. So far, the governing body has only been able to take action against 15 of them, and claimed the land back. This was done by erecting fences and setting signs about wrongly encroached areas belonging to the municipal corporation.

Hello. As per the news that I had been following, there was a failure on the part of the municipal corporation for completing a drive to identify the encroachments happening in the city. There are many owners occupying reserve sites which were designated for parks or playgrounds by the government. The survey found about 488 reserve sites from the east zone alone, and this is more than 243 sites in the south and 156 in the north of Coimbatore. The development control regulation states that about 10 per cent of the total area of an approved layout is intended to be reserved for the municipal city corporation.
