Any measures to improve water supply in Ganapathy Coimbatore?
Q: hello, I am aware of the water woes faced by the residents of Ganapathy and neighboring localities. What are the steps being taken by the corporation to solve this?
While it is quite surprising that the project is actually nearing completion, it is important to know that this was possible for the civic body because of the new main storage reservoir that was being supplied to Pilloor 11, giving it about 65 million litres everyday. The point of the Pilloor 11 water tank is that it can now supply water to the areas that were previously being supplied by Pilloor 1 that was backed by the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage board. The Pilloor 11 project will supply about 125 million litres per day, which should be enough for Ganapathy and areas surrounding it.
Yes, there have been some monumental problems with water supply in Ganapathy locality, and I live here so I have suffered too. The good news is that the laying of a new pipeline by the Corporation will substantially increase the duration of water supply to Ganapathy as well as surrounding areas. The water supply will now provided on alternate days instead of once in five or six days. The project is worth about Rs.7 crore and derived assistance from the State Government with the header “Infrastructure Gap Filling Fund’.
Hello. From recent developements I have inferred that the Coimbatore Corporation has decided to lay a pipeline from the Ganapathy’s main storage reservoir to the surrounding areas of Peelamedu, Avarampalayam, and some more. This should be completed in the next few months, after which the areas in and around Ganapathy should have more water supply. The pipeline is made of mild steel and measures about 1000 mm in diameter. It is capable of holding about 35 million litres of water every day to take it to the large water tanks of DJ Nagar, Avarapalayam and Peelamedu.
