Q: I've been reading many news articles that say that the roads in Mysore are going to improve? What sort of developmental plans are there? Will this help the real estate to boost up?
About a month or two ago, sewage entered the drinking water supply pipe and came out of many residents houses in Mysore. The civic authorities didn't rectify the problem until 2 or 3 days later. And the solution was to rip the roads apart to find what the problem was and of course the residents had to pay road cutting charges. Mysore's civic amenities are not becoming of a supposedly developing city. If it wants to attract the industrial sector then basic facilities such as good roads, water supply, and sanitation must be provided. Otherwise real estate prices will sink even lower!
I'm a student in Mysore and I travel by 2 wheeler. I can't even begin to describe what a pain it is to commute anywhere. Mysore is a tourist destination so it is confusing as to how infrastructural facilities here are as backward. Roads are narrow and there's not enough room for the increasing population. Let's not even talk about the potholes and rough patches! I've had to avoid accidents so many times because of this. This project is good for Mysore definitely. We should give it some time to unfold. These sort of projects usually take years to complete. We're lucky if it is completed by the end of next year. :P
You seem to be very optimistic but I'm sorry to inform you that development of these roads is taking place at a snail's pace. Literally! The officials in charge are just very lethargic and like to slack off. Road users will have to grit their teeth and put on a fake smile while using these horrible traffic infested roads. The officials say that the contractors are delaying the work while the contractors say that the payment hasn't been done. It's one excuse after the next with these people. According to me a seperate official should be put in charge of just managing traffic. Why don't people understand the importance of this in the long run?
Yeah isn't it great? The Mysore Urban Development Authoritiy has finally decided to pay attention to our horrible roads! There are plans to widen the Mysore - Bangalore road as well as the Bogadhi road that links southern parts of Mysore to Hunsur road. This is good for us motorcyclists because at least this way we can get to places on time. Traffic in the city is terrible otherwise. This project was actually included in the 2012 to 2013 budget and only now it's being implemented. Reason was because they also had to do some electric pole shifting work so they thought they'd do it simultanously. Oh also the University of Mysore had objections becuase they felt that the wider roads would cut into their campus and disturb the students. Poor students right? Ha! But the administrative staff finally agreed! :)
