Tree Felling in AB Road

Q: Does the Municipal Corporation still have plans of chopping down 199 trees for developmental projects in the city? Won't this affect the potential real estate in Indore?

That is really great! Any project facing trees for obstacles, now need to know the number of trees in the project area as well those coming in the way of the project. Then they have to provide satisfactory answers as to why they want the trees cut down. Permission to do so will only be granted if the project transplants the trees. Also a fee would have to be paid to the municipal commissioner. So all this has made it all the more difficult for people to cut trees yay! There's also going to be a tree census in all of Indore where all trees having more than 30 cm circumference and taller than 1 metre are counted and put under the Global Positioning Scheme where they will be henceforth monitored! :)

Kodwani really seems to know what he's doing. It's these sort of conservation practices that will help improve the city's real estate. Not fail development projects like the BRTS in Indore. It is super inefficient and on top of that, 1300 trees had to be cut down to construct the BRTS corridor. Because of this, the Bhopal bench of National Green Tribunal has ordered Indore collectors to plant 2000 indigenous trees to make up for the damage to the eco system. Kodwani was the one who filed the petition against these harmful developmental projects. And yes, chopping down 199 trees in any locality is not appealing in any way. At least I don't anyone who would willingly want to live in a place which is sure to have depleted ground water a couple of years from now!

For all this, the people of Indore seriously owe their thanks to the social activist Kishore Kodwani! The only reason that the IMC decided to review their project proposal was because of Kodwani's speech on conservation. He stressed on the fact that there is no system for giving approval for the cutting down of trees. So now the Indore Development Authority have taken it among themselves to implement a system for those seeking approval for the felling of trees. How awesome is that?

No thankfully at the moment all developmental projects have come to a standstill. It's sad that I have to say 'thankfully' but that's only because of the compromise that would have had to be made for all these developmental projects. There were plans to cut 199 trees and transplant 22 trees for the construction of the BRTS project and other developmental projects like feeder roads, bridges and culverts. I think this country should learn the difference between growth and development. A country can grow without developing and that will be the outcome of Indore if they plan on ripping apart our resources using the excuse of development.
