Q: Hey can someone tell me whether water scarcity is still a very big civic issue in Manikonda? Do you think investing in an apartment there will get me good returns?
Yes as on March 2019 the situation has worsened a lot. Power cuts 15 times a day, all borewells dried, water tanker mafia looting, no manjeera water suppply although promised long time back, Very bad bad roads so do not invest here. The builders are also rogues, they promise dreamhouse but give shit, once money paid they wash off their hands, All amenities promised are thrown to Dogs. One such rogue builder is Gamgothri Nakshatra who has fooled all.
No we are getting very unhygienic water. Not all times but many times we get very dirt and polluted water that will definitely make me and my entire family very ill. We have to be careful with the water we drink and even though this is supposed to come from Osman Sagar, but is still no good. Not enough and poor quality. But yes situation was not as bad as a while ago but if things like this keep happening, it is still pretty bad. Manikonda in general is decent locality. Located very close to roads like Outer Ring Road and Indira Gandhi flyover. Good schools and hospitals in the area. IT centres are approx 10 to 15 km away. Only thing is this water problem. If only it wasn't as severe, the locality would be thriving real estate wise!
Is the situation still that bad though? Because I read a news paper article recently that said that the water problem at Alijapur was very bad and there were no water taps at all except for one lone government tap that the residents had to rely on for water. The women used to quarrel with each other almost everyday because there was such little water. Some women even used to attach long pipes to the water tap and get water before going to sleep when there wasn't much crowd only because they couldn't afford to waste any time waiting in long lines. Finallly the situation got very bad that they all ended up traveling a long way to Manikonda just to get some water. So I'm sure Manikonda's water situation really isn't that bad.
Okay so about 20 years ago, when Manikonda was still a very new ocality, there were only about 8 to 10 independent houses there. At that point, the government fitted 3 inch water pipes for Manjeera water supply for these residents. But now, there are more than 500 residents there. How can the municipal corporation possibly not think about the fact that change is required for all these things. It is very important that the pipelines are widened or replaced with bigger pipes. And there should be more number of pipelines, not just 3. Also the lower part of Manikonda gets more water quantity and for a longer time than the upper part. So something should also be done about the uniformity of the water supply!
The locality does have many civic issues. Of the worst are the bad roads and insufficient water supply. In fact very recently there's was a report about this that I saw on the news. Basically the road situation is very bad. potholes everywhere, sewage and sludge make it difficult for cars and bikes to ride on it. Many 2 wheelers have met with minor accidents because of uneven roads. And if a car goes fast on these roads, the car's engine starts acting up or gets damaged. And every single road is bad. I haven't seen one nice one yet. Water problem is another thing. Everyday the lower income groups sit by the pipeline waiting for water to show up and it is in very limited quantity. So most of them have to spend extra and buy water from tankers which is not fair for them! This locality needs some major work.
