Q: Hey when is the second phase of the RAPDRP starting? Anybody has any more info on that? I’m a homebuyer, I need to know about the electricity situation in Kochi.

Yeah I agree. This phase of the project is basically the transitioning of the existing electrical grids in the city to smart grids. This smart grid system is much more efficient when it comes to collecting digitised data and executing the distribution and supply of electricity. So obviously this will be a welcome change to the lives of us Kochiites. Automatic power distribution, online bill payment, cutting down on transmission power losses – these are just the main benefits that we’re going to be enjoying. I’m really looking forward to this!

I personally think that this will affect the real estate sector. Most tier 2 cities in India are at the moment struggling with electricity supply. In fact even some Tier 1 cities. So for Kochi to achieve this will be a big progress. This, along with major job opportunities growing up, more and more people are going to be flocking to this city. So I think now is a very good time for you to invest in the real estate market in Kochi. God knows how much the prices are going to shoot up after Kochi has such a strong electrical network system running through.

No no, the whole project isn’t costing that much. That’s the fund allocated for just this second phase. It is actually being called the Kochi Distribution System Augmentation Scheme. And other than power saving, another good thing about this project is that, once operational it will be really easy to do any sort of repair work. So as Kochites, I think we should all be very excited about this, because this will mean definitely lower no-power times.

Yeah from what I’ve heard the second phase of this project is scheduled to start off pretty soon. This will be a huge help you know, because once completed we will be saving a lot of power. The authorities are claiming that there will be no more electricity loss during supply, which means that more electricity for the residents of Kochi, and less powercuts! Hope that happens. This whole project is being funded by the Central government, and the total budget is almost Rs 244 crores.
