Q: I got the news that the Coimbatore Corporation will have to clean a number of tanks on some priority basis? I’d like to know more about this please. Anyone?
Guys, the final tank is at Selva Chinthamani. These three are going to be done by the corporation itself. They are basically taking responsibility to clean and maintain these tanks. Their budget is Rs 27.45 crore. 60% of this money has been loaned, 30% is subsidy, and 10% is a generous contribution. The state and central governments are also going to help out in the maintenance of other tanks in the city like Krishnampathy, Kumarasamy, Singanullur etc. So the Coimbatore Corporation decided to go ahead with these three on their own.
I also know about just two tanks, the one in Narasampathy and the other one at Selvampathy. And talking about poor water supply! There are places in the city, which get water supply about once in 10 days. I hope with these developments the conditions improve a bit. The corporation are actually aiming for a water supply of once in 5 days, which is still quite pathetic, but some improvement at least. This will happen once the pipeline laying work is completed in the next few months throughout the city.
Yes that is right actually. The corporation has decided that they would themselves clean up at least three tanks around the city, before asking the state or the central government for their help in doing this. This is basically under the Tamil Nadu Sustainable Urban Development Programme. The water supply in Coimbatore is currently so poor, these steps are being taken to improve the condition a bit. I know that one of these tanks is the one at Narasampathy. Do you guys know about the other ones?
