I have seen the drain that you guys are talking about. Its the one at the Gowrishankar basti right? What I think is the biggest threat here, is that this whole thing is like a massive breeding ground for all different kind of pests. The fence only covers half the drain and someone can easily stumble and fall into the unfinished part of it. The authorities are not taking up the responsibilities. The town planning department are just trying to shun this off to the engineering department, and the engineering department are not showing any initiative either.
I agree, this drain is a major nuisance. It stinks so bad. I feel really bad for all the people living in the slums around this open drain, who have to constantly live in such unhygienic conditions. I have seen the well off people even dump things as big as coolers over here. A gate was supposed to be built here, to regulate who all can come in. But nobody built that gate, and now there is just this huge gap in the fencing and everybody just uses it for their own selfish purposes to come and dump more things on this pile.
See, I personally think its because of the residents of the Gowrishankar basti. These people keep throwing all kinds of garbage into the drains. Even plastic bottles and other such big items. So naturally the drains are going to get clogged. Which leads to it overflowing whenever there are heavy rains. The drains are wide open, some fencing work had started few months ago, but even that is not completed. There is a real risk of the children from the slum falling into this drain.
Road no. 10 is causing a lot of problems for us residents here in Banjara Hills. I personally moved here because Banjara Hills is one of the poshest neighbourhoods of Hyderabad, and I thought that chalo here I wouldn’t have to face those same old local problems, bad roads, waterlogging, etc. But see? Even here we’re not far off from these issues. Seems like no matter wherever we go in hyderabad, we’ll be followed by these problems.
