I know, its a major issue. What is sad that there were around Rs 260 crore allotted to this improving the overall drainage system of the city almost 6 years back. It was supposed to be done by March 2014. But that failed to happen because of a number of problems. The biggest reason is the illegal encroachments. So far only Rs 95 crores of the allotted funds have been spent. There are basically 4 primary and 11 secondary drains that need to be widened. But as of now, only 19km out of the 32km of primary drains have been widened, and 5km out of the 29km of secondary drains.

Oh yeah, I also heard about that shortage of proper drainage network in the city. Actually the city needs around 5500-6000km of storm water drainage lines, but currently it has only 1500km. I feel that the GHMC needs to be more proactive about the whole issue. Right now, even some very important drains around the Secunderabad area are really narrow, because of all these illegal encroachments. Seriously, there are so many illegal constructions blocking up all the space, that the drains haven’t been widened in the last six years.

Yeah, thats right actually. The waterlogging situation during monsoons is really bad in Secunderabad. The worst part is the GHMC do practically nothing about it, and it is us residents only who have to take necessary measures to deal with this situation. And it is quite obvious why this is happening. There is practically no proper drainage system. We still function on the drains built during the Nizam period. Did you know that since independence only 10 -15% of the total required drainage network for the city has been built!

stray dogs are often seen in our SMRVG. They used to visit even upstairs and sleeping at the Door steps even through out nights. Security men should take note of this new menace and try to drove them away. I request IMC to instruct security suitably.

Yeah you’ve heard right. Hyderabad in the monsoon is a bit of a serious problem. The city is so good overall, it is really sad that such issues like waterlogging during the monsoon, and water shortage during the summer bring it down like this. Especially Secunderabad, even a few mm of rain will flood this whole place up. The thing is that the drainage system here is so not up to the mark. This is what causes the water to clog up in the streets. Sometimes, the water even flows into our homes, with all the garbage and the dirt from outside. :(
