Q: Ramannakunta lake in Secunderabad, it used to be really nice, but now its become very dirty and the land surrounding it has been encroached upon illegally. Any steps to fix this?
Oh yeah, I heard they are completely demolishing any illegal constructions that have come up on the lake bed. The cleaning will be completed in 2 months. After that we can expect to see beautiful landscaping, walkways, nice seating arrangements and solar fences to overall beautify the place.
There was a Rs 2 crore budget allocated to the KPHB corporator for the development of roads and drainage and sewerage system. But the corporator clearly stated that they will not be undertaking any project for construction of footpaths on these roads, because that is the job of the Hyderabad metropolitan development authority (HMDA).
Well that’s what they are aiming to do. They’re planning to convert it into a ‘mini tank bund’. There will be major desiltation going on there to clean this up. They are also removing all those illegal encroachments.
Yeah, most of the wards under GHMC in this area dont have footpaths; especially KPHB colony, Vivekanand Nagar colony, Hydernagar, Old Bowenpally, Fateh Nagar, Moosapet. It is an extremely accident prone area, and almost 80% of the victims are pedestrians. Just few days back, during 16th or 17th July, 14 road accidents happened here.
But chalo, at least the municipality is finally started restoring it. From what I hear, they are going to get the property owners to lay underground sewer pipelines for better diversion of the sewaege. Lets hope they are able to bring it back to its former glory.
Hey did you guys know that people in the surrounding localities actually used to depend on this lake for their daily drinking water supply? Now look what the situation has become! Not only is the water disgusting, but you can find a number of illegal encroachments all along the lake bed.
The condition of this lake is really bad. The water is horrible, it is a cesspool of germs and all kinds of garbage. People don’t stop from dumping all their rubbish in here :(
Hey, you heard right, my friend. It is a news of great joy for us here in Secunderabad. Because this lake has a lot of historical value. It is more than a hundred years old. But now it has turned into this dump practically.
