Q: Guys whats the condition of the Gandhinagar bridge. Want to move to this locality soon. Want to know when should I fix the moving date, also what the place will be like when completed.
I would suggest that you move in sometimes around Novemeber. They are saying oct 10th, but these things have a habit of getting delayed. You dont want to move into that region while the construction works are still going on. The roads will be completely blocked.
I asked an expert and he said that Corrugated steel arch bridges are stronger than conventional bridges built using girder-and-slab technology since they have more surface area though requirement of materials is much lesser and piling is less cumbersome.
I heard that now all thats remained is for the roots to be removed and a wall to be built on the eastern entry side to reinforce houses built on the edge
Actually there was some problem which delayed the work. Two trees had to be felled for the project and it took three weeks to obtain permission from Social Forestry Department.
Originally they put forward the arguments that speedy construction, lesser cost and enhanced structural stability as advantages of the arch bridge over conventional bridges. But the speedy construction part has not been able to prove itself.
Yes, and if I remember correctly, It was supposed to be a 14X8-metre bridge, linking Gandhinagar with Ernakulam Junction railway station's eastern entry, and will replace the small culvert that existed over the canal here.
The exact date I dont know, but I do know that after hearing so many negative feedbacks about the slow progress of the Gandhinagar bridge, which is btw Kerala’s first corrugated steel arch bridge, Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) has sped up work on its approach roads in Gandhinagar.
