hey, as an American-Born Indian Citizen, i feel that electricity and water are touchy topics here, no doubt. interruption of these in US is considered as a real problem for daily life. But, here, in Kochi, we have had days here and there where we did not have water due to municipality not filling the community's tanks. Electricity is also interrupted without warning even upto few hours.

when we talk about waste management, one more thing that i think is very important is the solid waste management. In our houses and all, recently there was an initiative by the Kudumbashree agencies for door to door collection of wastes. But, even while this is happening, the recovery is limited and there are lots of challenges coming up regarding littering and in waste recovery as well as safe disposal.

true...i heard that septage is illegally done in the waterbodies and vacant plots without even thinking about the environment problems that may come up in the near future. You know now itself, the water that we drink in Kochi has a lot of amount of Coliform bacteria.

oh..guys,,i dont believe that this problem will be over soon. waste water management is a serious issue now. Due to the lack of sewer system, the wastewater treated is dependent on the septic tanks. I came to know that the septage clearance is through private providers and i think nobody is there to monitor or regulate this through any means.

Hey, i recently happened to know tha there has been recommendation for a comprehensive review of the detailed project report for conventional sewerage systems along with awareness and stakeholder engagement initiative to understand the local concerns. the sewerage master plan will also be revised i guess, to tackle the problem.

But, if you are planning to settle down here in just 1 or 2 years from now, i think the sewage problem will be settled. Have you heard of the proposed project for developing the sewage networks. This project aims to bring the sewage network close to covering 25 % of the area.

Yeah...i think this is the reason that this region is also becoming a vulnerable pollution hotspots. there are many problems in the city drainage network like the lack of a city wide drainage and canal master plan, lack of integration and inadequate focus on design requirements etc.

apart from this waste management is another issue guys...i think less than 5 % of the city has a good sewage network. the problem is even more difficult with waste dumping and sullage flow in the canal and drains that add to the ineffectiveness of the drains.

Hey, generally talking, the water supply is often low and unreliable. Most probably the households had to depend upon the private tankers. There is another problem in this. Though 100% of household connections are metered, 40 % of the meters are faulty. This makes the cost recovery of water supply services inadequate in this region.

Hey, I can give you a brief idea about this problem okay...You know, the problem of water scarcity is most during the months of february and march. it also can extend till may also. In my opinion, this is because most of the water are diverted to the west kochi areas like Thevara, Panampilly Nagar, Thrikkakkara, and Thrippunithara by the Kerala Water Authority officials. That is the reason for this shortage. Protests are going on against this, anyway.

Yeah..I have also heard about this water problem in those area. these areas that he mentioned are facing severe to moderate kind of water shortage. But you know, the people in Ittithara Colony, Kannangattu, Dempsy Road as well as South of VAT junction in edakochi north division of the corporation of kochi are the worst hit.

I think there are some general issues that the residents of Kochi have to face. I think that water scarcity and polluted water are the main among these problems. There were lots of reports recenty telling about the water problem in Kochi especially in the regions like Edakochi, Palluruthy, Konam, Perumpadappu, Fort Kochi and Mattanchery area.
