Kochi to boost water transport with Rs 624 crore loan
Q: So I heard some interesting news that Kochi will get Rs. 624 crores to improve water transport. Who is the beneficiary? How will the project be developed?
Precisely. The union government will run it through the Urban Development and Finance Ministries. Once tjay is completed I think a submission will be made to the German bank who will then again go through the details and approve the project. So basically this is a very lengthy process. Hoping to see this getting cleared soon.
Elias George, KMRL chairman also has said that a detailed project report on the inter- modal transporthas been sent to the state authorities who will then bring it upto to the state cabinet. Once that gets approved it will the given to the Union govt.
You know Heiko Warnken, an official from the German embassy to India was present in the meeting and he lauded the attempt of the Kochi authorities to integrate all the three modes of transport:: Metro, Bus and water. He felt that this would be a great thing once it is worked out entirely.
Yes. They spoke to a three member representative team from the German bank German Development Bank KfW, on Friday. Again, a development like this would bring all of India's attention to Kochi and real estate could quite literally sky rocket.
There's actually been more development than that. Basicallly the UMTA or Unified Metropolitan Transport Corporation and the Kochi Metro Rail Limited Chairmans had a lengthy talks about the possible development of a water transport corridor that could improve its infrastructure.
Definitely. There some 224 crores remanining after these will be done. Thwy will go to dredging, buildies and renovating boat jetties, and also they will be developing feeder service through buses from boat jetties and to and fro the city and the terminals.
Rs. 200 crores our of the remaining Rs. 424 crores will be used to improve the road connectivity to the existing and upcoming water stations which will also develop the real estate situation in the area.
Yes. You are right. This loan Kochi is getting is also inclusive of Rs. 200 crore which is being provided to purchase fast, efficient and economical (fuel) ferries to operate in the rapidly growing water network which will also improved the tourism and revenues.
Hello, Maria. Yes. The Greater Kochi region is expected to get some Rs. 624 crores worth of loans to boost up the already developing water transport facility in and around the city region. I think this is really needed as other means of transport like roads are getting too crowded.
