I am of the opinion that the proposed plan will hinder developmental prospects of Edappally area. the railways will now allot funds to construct the ramp and it would be done within six months. Railways has also proposed a parking space that can accommodate over 30 cars

Exactly, If they had approved the road plan, that would have been very good for the we could have introduced a circular bus services linking the highway. I think this will bring about more development in this area as it is already proximate distance from the IT hubs and all.

I think that it is not that good for the GCDA to spend their money for such a visionless project. But, i am supporting the view that Edappally should be developed as a satellite railway station considering its proximity to Infopark, civil station, national highways, medical and industrial hubs in its vicinity.

Yeah that's true. But this has its own disadvantages also. This restricts vehicle movement to the other end. Senior railway officers said that if a proper road is constructed, public will encroach into railway properties. I don't understand the logic in this.

I came to know that most of the passenger traffic is from the Ponekkara side. I got to know about a project plan in which the railways has proposed a ramp to connect both roads. The suggested ramp will be at a height of two-and-a-half feet from the ground.

At present, vehicles and passengers coming from the Ponekkara Junction can reach the old railway station only. The entry to the old railway building and platform one (which is situated at a height of 2 metres from the ground) on the Ponekkara side is through a stairway as it is a low-lying area.

Actually, as the old building was closed and the new ticket counter was opened on the highway side, passengers cannot simply take the stairway to the platform since walking on the platform without a ticket is an offence. This has become a problem to the passengers.

Yeah..I also came to know about that. You know, the GCDA also has earmarked Rs 20 lakh for the purpose. But what happened is that Thiruvananthapuram railway division authorities handed over a project plan that proposed a ramp to connect 50-m stretch. GCDA said that the plan was `unrealistic`.

Sure. I think that the Railway division as well as the GCDA or the Greater Cochin Development Authority has been related to this development. Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) had come forward to construct a road that would connect the southern (Edappally old railway station) and northern (new railway station) ends of the station.

At present, bus services halt at Ponekkara. I think that this will hinder the future development and easing traffic rush from Kochi. the GCDA has already informed their stand on the railway authorities here.

yes there has been plans for the approach road that connects Edapally railway station to the Ponekkara Junction, I think that this will not come up in the near future. This is actually a good project that has been a pending demand of the railway passengers since a long time.

Ohh..is it? Who are taking care of this work. Is it PWD? Can you give more insight into this issue?
