please give me the latest updates about the pachalam rail over bridge construction
Q: Hey, i read that the land acquisition issue is finally resolved, so i wanted to check what is the latest updates on the construction side for the Pachalam rail overbridge. Thanks
Here are my two cents on the whole pachalam ROB thing. I thing that the construction has been delayed for way to long, and i hope for the sake of the people being affected by this, that this time the government actually follows through.
Though the width of the ROB as per the original plan was 22m, it was later reduced to 10.5m so as to cut the cost of the project and minimize the requirement of land. The length of the Rs 52-crore project is 346m.
On Friday, the revenue officials served notice to landowners, who had failed to give their consent, to surrender the land within 48 hours. On Monday, officials demolished all structures in the 46 cents using force.
Last month, the Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) gave another Rs 2 crore. They expect the government to provide the remaining funds soon, a revenue official said. It also needs at least Rs 6 crore to rehabilitate those who have to shift their shops or demolish their houses.
The total extent of land required for the project is around 46 cents. The district-level purchase committee (DLPC) had fixed the land value at Rs 15 lakh. Though 22 landowners gave their consent for surrendering the land, 10 owners had refused to part with their holdings.
Mobilising funds to provide compensation for landowners will be a major issue that has to be solved. For giving compensation to the landowners, it will require around Rs 9 crore. The government has already given Rs 3 crore on that regard.
"Hey, i have latest information with regards to the eviction. On Tuesday, seven out of the 10 landowners, who were forcibly evicted, approached the officials and gave their consent. They expect the remaining three landowners to follow suit according to an official with the revenue department said.
"
I heard somewhere that on Monday revenue officials had completed eviction of all 32 landowners and taken possession of their land. Of the 32 landowners, 10 were evicted forcibly. That is a bit of a letdown, but i guess they had to do it.
Well as far as i know, the state government has given instructions to concerned agencies to complete the construction before September when elections to local bodies are to be held. Finally the project will be completed.
