Property Tax on unregistered property.

Q: Who liable to pay property tax of unregistered property? Is it fair to give notice to previous owner than a new owner?

Yes what you said is correct, in civic body record previous owner will be liable for property tax or other expense till the property is registered in new owner’s name.The new owner name will not be included in record unless the formalities of transfer of property are done.

Yes it is not fair to make previous owners to pay property tax on property transferred but as large number of property owner have purchased land through agreement or affidavits or under notary signature and never got them registered. The record shows previous owner name as liable for property tax so, they get property tax notices from the civic body
