Q: I've been reading a lot of articles that say that Perumbavoor has many civic issues. Is Perumbavoor an unsafe locality? And how developed is the locality?
Hey I just recently read something about Perumbavoor! Since Kochi is turning into a major commercial hub, Perumbavoor is one of the places that has a lot of tourism potential. The project worth 1 lakh is already underway in Iringole Kavu at Vallam. There are many other places that are tourist hot spots. The Naganchery Mana is situated near the Iringole kavu which is a sacred grove spread over 40 acres of land. This is another beautiful spot here. So the place will eventually have great real estate value and potential despite some minor civic issues :)
About 2 years ago, the Perumbavoor Municipality started the cleanliness and sanitation drive where residents and many other volunteers cleaned the streets and drains of the entire locality. This brought recognition to the health campain, the prevention of the spread of communicable diseases, cleanliness campaign and the safety campaign. This was to bring down the civic issues that the locality was facing. Needless to say, it was a job well done! Since then Perumbavoor has ben facing some problems like insufficient water supply but almost all places in kochi face this problem.
I think this idea that Perumbavoor is an unsafe locality started in 2011 when the police caused unrent in the rally organised by the Popular Front of India. Police started arresting members of the rally because they went ahead with it even though they weren't given the permission. Apart from that, yes there have been a couple of murders in the area but a lot of places in Kochi face this safety issue then. And that murder of a migrant worker in a vacant plot did not devalue the real estate in the locality in any way!
