Mogdhe also has plans of replacing all the old pipelines with new ones, especially on the AB bypass road where the residents are completely dependent on ground water. Now the plan is to actually increase the forest cover on the banks of the Narmada because otherwise the supply of water from Narmada is getting very expensive. Reforestation will help build the ecosystem thereby increasing water levels of Narmada and 6 to 8 crores doesn't need to be spent at the main pumping station in Jalool. Plants will absorb pollutants like nitrogen and phosphorous and convert them to nitrogen and nitrogen dioxide gases. Climate change will alter the river's hydrology!
For the project involving the linking of Narmada and Kshipra, it is important to keep the Kshipra river clean! This has not been done even though the necessary funds were given for the ptoject. The Khan and Saraswathi rivers that flow into Kshipra have a number of sewage and drainage pipes that pollutes the water. The civic authorities haven't got a move on because apparently no contractor wants to do the job. Hopefully this project will not be thrown aside just like many other development projects of Indore.
Oh Indore has faced it all! Heavy monsoons that damage all the infrastructure around us and the dry droughts where there has been no water for days. The situation is obviously better now and these are not everyday occurrences. But when it does happens, it is usually severe. Indore gets its water from the Narmada river and right now there are plans for alternate source of water from the Choral river. Another project is linking Narmada and Kshipra rivers so there is a bigger water source. Some localities in Indore suffer more than others when it comes to a lack in civic amenities. But each locality has its ups and downs.
