Q: Can you please tell me about the problems you face while living in apartments made of monolithic construction, like heat, leakages, etc? I am researching on this technology and would like to device solutions for the issues.
I completely agree with Arunabha and I want to add the benefits of monolithic construction:
1) Commonly seen problems of Leakage/ Seepage will not be there, 99.9%.If occurs, would be spotted the very same day and can be stopped very easily. Seepage on the outer wall cannot penetrate to the inner wall and vice-versa.
2) Thermal Insulation:Since these walls contain a layer of High quality insulation material it will allow:
Heat Retention within house in winters.
Cool retention within house in summers.
Saving electricity cost up to 80% of air conditioning & heating electricity cost
3) Sound Insulation:Since these walls contain a layer of high quality insulation material it will NOT allow (absorb almost 90% of the sound) sound to pass through it and act as a barrier in between. For eg:Outside traffic noise or next door neighbor having loud music or Jagran happening nearby will not interrupt your peace of mind.
4) Bullet, Blast & wind projectile Proof:Since these walls contain 2 layers of reinforced Steel strructure with Micro Concrete, it will act as a shield in case of a mis-happening like:
a>Gas Cylinder Blast- it will prevent a blast-force of up to 21.5 tons per m2.
5) Hurricane-In an unlikely event of hurricane any wind projectile (like light poles/ trees) can’t pass through the wall.Parliament House of 2 countries have been made by this technology.
Thanks bharat. The few problems I have encountered in this construction are:
1) The room gets very hot during the day and moreso on the top floor which already has this problem in conventional construction also. 2) Pipes might burst during the construction phase due to vibrations. Post-construction, repair of plumbing becomes difficult in concrete walls. 3) Cracks develop around windows and doors.
Can you tell me what insulation material are you talking about here and how is it integrated within the walls & ceiling? Also, like you mentioned, the structure is complete concrete with 2 layers of reinforcing steel; would you have any data on environmental impact/carbon footprint of monolithic construction and/or a comparison with brick/block masonry/rcc framed structure?
Now a day most of the builder in metro city are using monolithic construction which is more efficient and effective method of energy saving. The Monolithic construction has a number of unique benefits: construction affordability, healthy environment, disaster protection .
Thanks Arunabha. I am looking to resolve the practical issues with monolithic construction. Can you please advice me on those, if you have been facing any while living in this type of home?
