Civic Issues in Bengali Square

Q: Recently I heard that police monitoring needs to be increased in Bengali Square. Why exactly is this? Is the locality unsafe or something? I'm moving with my family to Bengali Square so please any info would help. Also does the locality face any other civic problems?

Hi all,
People were seen wading through water in most of the localities and vehicles crawled on major roads of the city, including AB Road and MG Road. Not only this uprooted trees, waterlogging on all major roads, flooded low-lying areas are some of the major issues of this localities. Even on BRTS stretch, waterlogging could be witnessed. Long traffic jams were seen at Navlakha, Vijaynagar Crossing, Dewas Naka, Palasia and Rajwada.

This storm water drain project has now been implemented in a lot of areas like Krishnabagh Colony, Paliwal Nagar, Sheetal Nagar, Utakarsh Vihar, near Velocity Mall, Gurudev Residency, Telephone Nagar, Adarsh Nagar, Bajaj Compound, Paliwal Nagar, Bengali Square, Ring Road, Rajeev Gandhi Square and certain areas of AB Road. There is no longer such a big problem and it is now under control. It is safe also now with the extra police attention.

I don't think this 'project' will change things much. The civic authorities did promise that the work would be done in 6 wards of the city though. But still you can never trust them. They've delayed very much in the past with all these things. Last year in my colony there was back logging for more than a week. I don't understand how they can take so long to act on these things. They said that storm water line would be laid but it took a very long time for it to happen.

This sort of stuff has been going on for very long time. But you'll be happy to know that the situation is much better now. What's worse in Bengali colony is the water logging problems. Worst thing is that the authorities actually delay the laying of drainage pipes so much, that moonsoon season begins and the drainage work still hasn't been completed. This is bound to cause a lot of problems for the residents because the roads apart from being smelly, also disrupt commuters. work for the storm water line project costing 4.7 crore should definitely be finished as early as possible.

Did you hear about the murder of a vegetable vendor in Rampal Mansare? Because of this some 50 traders came and protested against this unjust act who demanded for immediate arrests of these culprits. They desperately wanted security to improve and want round the clock vigil in Bengali square. The area really needs it. Be careful because you're moving with your family. But now I think with this police support, things will be more under control in this locality.

Yeah now police inspection has really increased in Bengali square area because of the presence of goons and drunkards over here. I've felt scared to walk down the street alone sometimes. Now the police in Palasia are combining with Khajrana and Kanadia to really do a good job of making the locality safe and free from violence. The square connects many places like Sanchar Nagar, Manawta Nagar, Gulmohar Colony, Kanadia, Bengali Colony etc to Ring Road. That's why so many people come here and make a nuisance for the residents.
