I completely agree. The budget also failed to mention how the switch from regular domestic gas to natural gas would be made throughout the state. It really needed to specify a proper natural gas policy, but the budget failed to do so.
All this is well, but haven’t you guys heard the latest union budget? Frankly speaking it doesn’t look too good for Kochi and especially for this natural gas pipeline that they are laying down all over the state. It barely touched upon the major issues like unavailability of regular domestic gas and fluctuating gas prices.
Yeah it is true. There has been gas pipeline burst pretty recently in Andhra Pradesh. And it will probably affect the progress of the Kochi-Mangalore gas supply lines, though I really hope it doesn’t. That pipeline is supposed to be over 850km long, and it passes through three states of Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.
Hey, but come on, it has its issues. Right now the pipeline land is threatening to infiltrate into the farmer’s land. See it from their point of view yaar! Their land is their only source of income. Its a good thing that the Supreme Court is at least supporting the farmers’ cause.
This is all a part of the government’s initiative to make Kerala a natural gas run state. The whole project budget is a whopping Rs 3400 crore and is one of the biggest changes that will be happening in Kochi pretty soon.
I guess you mean the Kochi – Mangalore gas pipeline that has been doing the rounds in the news lately. Actually it is no surprise, this IS quite a big project, and if it all works out well, then the city of Kochi will have natural gas supplies to all their domestic houses.
