Q: Hey I've been hearing a lot about the complaints that motorists have driving down Sundapalyam lake. Apparently the smell coming from there is very bad. Can someone explain a little more in detail? Also what are the civic authorities doing about this problem?
They say that the foam was formed because of the filamentous bacteria in the sewage that was realeased in the lake. Yuckkk. But they sprayed an anti foaming agent, and the foam no longer spread. This year again they will do the same thing.
No but apparently, the cops have checked the lake and they could not find even a shred of industrial sewage discharge. the only industry closeby is the sugar cane one. And it couldn't have come from that..
Even if I am going in my car, it is still not safe because I am hit by the foam and i can smell it inside also. all the people in my neighbourhood have complained to the civic authorities but they haven't done squat
I think the main reason for this white foam is that it comes from the dyeing units located in Telungupalayam and Seeranaickenpalayam. That seeps intot he water, mixes with sewage maybe, and this white foam was formed.
This has been going on for a while now. My uncle has been complainging about this problem for the past 6 years. This starts in June and goes on till December time. Big headache this is
It is disguting. It looks like there is a patch of snow on the lake. but actually it could be sewage. and every time the wind blows, it hits us. we try to duck but in vain. My shop is there in Ganapathy. It is so difficult to get there easily.
Basically what happens is, the 2 lakes rapidly fill up with water when it rains. Then because of the very high wind velocity of 24 km per hour, it pushes the foam.
Appapa. Once that white smoke landed on me and I had to go back home and immediately have a bath and go to work. That feeling felt as though it might have been toxic, whatever it was.
Oh my god the smell is just too terrible. If you ride down Sundapalayam road, you will know what I am talking about. Some white smoke is always being blown towrads the road side and it stinks.
