Occupancy certificate a must in Coimbatore

Q: Hi guys, how important is it to have an occupancy certificate when I move in to a new house? Can I move in without the certificate?

According to the Deputy Director a drive would be undertaken to ensure all businesses and builders complied with this order. Cases can be filed under the TN Public Health Act against those violating this directive and fines can be imposed.

The district administration, Corporation, Local Planning Authority and District Industries Centre besides other relevant Government agencies and departments have been or are going to be alerted about this. Even the Health Department; to assess how many persons could work or occupy the building.

Yes, and now all buildings must obtain this certification under the Sections 26 (quality and adequacy of water supply) and 33 (drainage facilities) of the TN Public Health Act.

I know. There have been so many cases where residents had found out that their apartment lacked adequate water supply after they had moved in. Im sure you dont want that to happen.

This is basically to ascertain if the building has adequate drinking water and sanitation facilities besides drainage. So its for your benefit only.

Dude not just industries, even residential houses and apartments cant escape from this now. Its a must, you must get it done before moving in

Yeah. This has been mandated basically by the The Public Health Department. They instructed all industries and businesses in the State to compulsorily obtain ‘occupancy certificate’ for new buildings before utilising them.

Ok listen, you must get an occupancy certificate. earlier even if they let these things slide, now things have changed, and they are very strict about this.
