I think most of the delays is due to some technical delays as well as the procurement of raw materials.

The old Venduruthy bridge was shut down almost 10 years ago, remember after that dredger accident? Passenger traffic was completely stopped on the route. Once the new bridge opens, Im sure more cargo trains will be able to tranport through this route.

Yes the railway officials should soon be done be done with the work on the approach road within the next half month as per the mandate. We really need this bridge asap, because its such a vital link to West Kochi.

I know too much delay. It was supposed to be opened last year. However, the delay in completion of the approach road connecting the bridge has brought the project to a halt.

I think this deadline was imposed when Gireesh Pillai, Railway Board Advisor (Infrastructure) visited the site some time in early August. The construction of the bridge has been stalled for the past several months, I think this might give a push to the lethargic workers.

Also, with the bridge getting ready, the railways has accorded priority to revive Harbour Terminus station as a hub for passenger and goods trains.
