Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike came out with a notification for the residents to manage dry waste. BBMP has offered the residents to make a profit by selling dry waste at attractive rates to Dry Waste Collection Centers established by them. This is being seen as a step towards attaining Swacch Bharat Mission, an initiative yet to be taken in most of the cities.

Hi,
I heard the news BBMP got Rs 1000Cr for road works. It also approved to grant 84 acres of land near Devanahalli for the Indian Navy. The Cabinet ratified the new names of 12 cities and approved two solid waste management processing units of private entrepreneurs to be established in the city.

Hi Dipten,
As per my knowledge, Karnataka High Court had directed the BBMP to install processing plants in all the 28 Assembly constituencies in the city to reduce the burden on landfills. BBMP is yet to take action, and it does not seem to be in a hurry to implement it either.

Hi Dipten,

BBMP will strengthen the dry waste collection centers (DWCCs) in every ward and will increase the capacity of processing plants in all its eight divisions, but may not install plants at every Assembly constituency. There were intense protests from the citizens on the proposed processing plants. Nobody wants garbage processing units in their neighborhood.

Hi All,

According to me, who wants unhealthy atmosphere in his/her neighbourhood. Definitely it is a big challenge for BBMP to find suitable place for the plants. Though not a single plant has been installed in the city so far, of the 16 proposed bio-methanisation plants 13 are fully functional.

Hi Dipten,
Yes Mr Eshaan, I agreed with you. These plants have the capacity to process five tonnes of wet waste every day, but are receiving lesser quantities. The people preferred to sell milk packets and plastic bottles to vendors and these kabadiwalas too were not interested in selling the stuff at DWCCs.

Hi Guys,
According to me, people are blaming BBMP for choosing location next to their residence. When BBMP saying that people are not awared of waste disposal issues. Selling milk packets & plastic bottles to kabadiwalas are now a problem for BBMP. Planning to strengthen these plants along with the processing units in its eight divisions, the BBMP has given up the idea of developing new plants in each constituency.
