Last I heard, the divisional commissioner had directed IDA and IMC both to construct multi-story affordable housing on the slum lands, in some meeting to review the affordable housing scheme. Its a good idea, I think it would serve dual purpose of making the city slum-free and providing affordable houses to needy
Hopefully the project will be put before board in next few days and work is expected to start by March 2015. The IDA is also waiting to get possession of land from government for the project, since now they have decided to construct these affordable houses on their land.
I think things will start quite soon. IDA chairman said they have identified lands in different parts of the city to construct around 5,000 units. He also said that along with that they have got two plots from administration in Rau for affordable housing project.
Yes there has been a lot of unprecedented delay. Basically the IDA officials are attributing the delay in start of the project to non-availability of government land and high price for acquiring land and constantly increasing cost of construction material.
But none of the actual construction was done. Of the planned 30,000 affordable houses in 5 yrs and the 6,000 in this year, not one house under the scheme was constructed in Indore. Only the paperwork stage has been accomplished for the project.
Not only that, but they also revised rates of flats developed in three categories in its Scheme 155. The flats of first and second categories were to be sold out on lottery system with an approximate rate of around Rs 12 and 19 lakh respectively while tenders were supposed to be invited to sell the flats of third category starting from Rs 24.32 lakh.
The board members had also decided back then to reduce supervision charge to 3% from 16% for ongoing construction in ‘Atal Ashraya Yojana’ at Jhumarghat and Nihalpur Mundi for developing 302 houses for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and 432 houses for the Lower Income Group (LIG)
I had remembered that the board members had decided to send a proposal to the state government and the district administration to provide government lands at minimum premium to develop flats or houses for the families belonging to EWS and LIG category.
Ok so the Indore developmental authority had decided at the end of last year only, to start providing affordable housing to the urban poor. Unfortunately that plan hasnt panned out so much as of now. No such housing project has been constructed since then in Indore.
Yes I remembered this happened last year in December. Apparently the board members of the IDA even urged the district collector to give relaxation in guideline rates for the lands marked for developing affordable houses for low-income group families.
