Q: Hello everyone, Garbage has been a very big problem in Kochi no? Now, is there any new system here to reduce the garbage dumping in Kochi. How is the situation now?
I have a suggestion to give to the authorities about this. I think the police would be able to register more cases if there was adequate surveillance. There should be cctv cameras for tracking such acts because not having these facilities is disadvantageous as most people dump waste at night.
Yeah..and now, there has been a considerable change in the mindset of people. The Mission Clean Kochi campaign has played a major role in this. We are also planning to reinforce night patrolling and other awareness activities.
For your information, I would like to say that as per Section 340 of the Kerala Municipalities (Compounding of Offences) Rules, a fine of upto Rs 2,000 can be slapped for dumping filth in public places. The corporation collected Rs 60,000 as penalty in 2014.
Yeah that is true. I can point that out with the statistical data. While in 2013, 78 people were booked for dumping garbage in public places, the number came down to 48 in 2014.
You know, the rules have been very strict against people who are dumping waste in Kochi. Now the garbage dumping here has gone down. The number of persons booked for dumping garbage in public spaces has come down in the city as per the data of Kochi corporation's health department.
