Q: Hello, Is the land acquisition process done for the KOchi Metro? How long will this process take?

With regards to the bar owner, the revenue officials have not got any instructions from the KMRL, the agency which is to give the requisition letter for acquiring land and action will be taken once they receive the letter.

KMRL has submitted an affidavit before the court that market value of the land should be given only if the company authorities produce documents regarding the ownership of the land. But the problem is the tyre company do not have the land on its name.

See one of the land owners here called Premier Tyres have moved the court against Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL)'s stand that the company is not eligible for getting market value as compensation for around one acre to be surrendered for Metro station and parking lot.

Complications are everywhere with this project. The authorities are still at loss as to taking over the holdings in possession of Premier Tyres Ltd at the Kalamassery area and around 50 cents belong to a bar owner at Aluva and they need to start negotiations.

The officials have already held several rounds of negotiations with land owners at south and Many of them have agreed to hand over their land, despite some differences of opinion regarding compensation and this will speed oup the process as there is not much opposition.

Department officials have said that when it comes to the case of others, they will hold a final talk. If that too fail, they will serve notice on them to surrender the land in 48 hours. If that too fails they will resort to eviction.

The revenue department has also served a notice to Seematti textiles and if they fail to hand over 32 cents required for Metro's viaduct connecting Banerjee Road and MG Road by Wednesday, the department will take over the holding forcibly.

Right now, They have planned to take over some of the land for parking lot and other such area near Kaloor bus stand. Once it is done work will soon be started.

One of the main officials with the Kochi MEto has said that they have completed the negotiations with land owners along Kaloor-Deshabhimani stretch and that will be taking over all the holdings along the stretch this week. I didn't hear any mention of the forcible eviction.

There was some complications with this process and the authorities were further delayed by a bit. With some of the land owners hesitating to hand over the land, the revenue authorities had evicted them forcibly to continue with the work.

The officials have already served notives to all the property owners in the areas where the metro project will come up with. They are suggested that they surrender the lands in the Pachalam area in two or three days.
