The lowest capacity of 2,000 litres of water could on an average cost Rs. 600 for a trip. There were tankers that ferry up to 35,000 litres of water. I can say nothing but that you should expect the price to go up since it is summer time.

I wanted to tell you that cost of the water depends mainly on the distance travelled, according to Mr. Ramachandran. I wanted to tell you that these price hikes are reasonable and you should brace yourself.

Flats are not their main customers in my opinion. Commercial establishments, the Navy, Kochi port and ships that that dock at the port are huge water guzzlers.

Of the 400 tanker lorries that are transporting water every day, about 300 tankers of varying capacity conduct a maximum of four trips. I hope that this information is useful.

I wanted to tell you that the secretary said the standard for all drinking water was said to be the same for all types of water, whether it came in tanker lorries or as bottled water.

Quality of water had been a point of contention between the Health officials and water suppliers. However, Mr. Ramachandran said the district administration was yet to set up a body that would check the quality of water from the identified sources on a regular basis.

I wanted to tell you that the water level in these wells had come down, forcing the suppliers turn to Kerala Water Authority (KWA), which is selling water at double the price.

Well, R. Ramachandran, secretary of the Ernakulam District Drinking Water Transporters’ Association, has said that the water tanker lorries were supplying water only from the 47 wells identified by the District Administration
