Q: Hello. I will be moving to Ganapathy locality soon. As i am very particular about rain water harvesting,I want to know if the issue has been taken seriously in the area or not.
Yes, the issue of rain water harvesting has been taken seriously in the locality of Ganapathy of late, but it was not always like this. This is mostlu because strict measures were not taken by the civic bodies earlier. Now the minicipal corporation has warned that water supply will be cut off to commercial as well as residential buildings that do not have RWH structures installed. About 138 RWH structures so far existing already on building were found to be faulty and are being repaired in all 4 zones headed by the corporation. Additionally, the concept of rain water harvesting was promoted at the VOC park grounds recently by the city municipal corporation in the form of an exhibition.
To add to what you have said, there are also orders from the state government to the corporation to start a large scale campaign that can facilitate the promotion of rain water harvesting in urban settlements. There was a survey organized by corporation officials recently to be able to identify the RWH structures in about 100 wards across Coimbatore. This has helped to issue notices to the structures that are not competent enough or do not offer any functionality for the purpose of rainwater harvesting. So far, 243 structures have been covered and the entire corporation area is expected to be covered by the civic body’s list of RWH facilities.
hello there. I have always shared this concern about rain water harvesting because the conservation of water plays such an important role in our day to day life. I am happy to say that the area where I live, which is Ganapathy, the issue has in fact been taken very seriously. Recently at least 60 buildings received notices from the municipal corporation of Coimbatore for operating without rain water harvesting structures. This was done to make sure that the water is from the coming monsoon season is substantially conserved. All residential and commercial structures in the Ganapathy area have in fact been given until June 26th to install RWH facilities.
