Drainage Problems at Avinashi flyover

Q: I heard that people living on Avinashi road are experiencing lot of difficulties because of lack of civic facilities in the area? What is the current situation?

Yeah see because of the work not being completed, everyone had to take the flyover route (it was the only road that was open). This created so much of a traffic jam on the bridge that vehicles had to standstill for hours. Literally hours. That's not the worst part. The Coimbatore Corporation, for the repair work, had to link the northern part of the storm drain to the southern side. But they've actually abandoned the work and the pit has just been lying open from that time. Now this is not only extremely unhygienic and unsanitary but is also so unsafe! There have actually been accidents as people see the pit in the last minute and turn sharply to the right or left to avoid it. Seriously it's about time Coimbatore spends more time and money on such important aspects of basic living in the city.

Hey I don't know if you remember but the Coimbatore Corporation started repair work at 6 in the morning the very next day. There were a lot of men and machinery assigned to flush out all the dirty water in the area. By a couple of hours the Lanka corner was open again for people to travel on. And by 9 or 10 even the Kaleeshwara Mill road was clear of all the drainage. But yes, Avinashi flyover and Shastri road faced a big problem. They had a lot of power cuts and because of this Coimbator Corporation had to only use their diesel operated machines. So the completeion of the task was delayed. A lot of people were very pissed off because of this situation. Coimbatore should improve on their civic ammenities if they want to make it a good place for people to live in.

Yeah it was a very huge problem. Last year especially. Even if a little rain falls, the entire flyover area is flooded and there is a lot of litter floating around everywhere. Subway, underpasses, all were waterlogged. The Lanka Corner underpass, Avanashi Road subway, Kaleeswara Mill underpass, Shastri Road underpass which is next to Kikani school and even North Coimbatore subway were all affected by the rains. Traffic had to come to a standstill. Coimbatore in general faces this problem I think. A lack of proper civic facilities. Even sewage disposal is not done well here. There's a lot of drain water seeping onto the roads and this really makes the entire locality smell horrible.
