Yeah..even though authorities claim that the pipes broken during the Metro construction have been repaired, they admit frequent damage is becoming a problem. In the JNNURM scheme..there has been much delay. I think that the project will be commissioned in the beginning of the next financial year.

But, i think that the corporation authorities are also worried about the increasing number of high rises and the frequent damage of water pipes due to Metro construction. The 45 lakh existing water users as per KWA records is far below the actual count if one includes the high rises that have come up in last few years.

I think that the authorities are trying their best to provide tankers to supply water to all areas where pumping is inadequate. Once the mega water project, under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), is commissioned the present crisis in West Kochi will be solved permanently, in my opinion.

Oh..i am really worried about the problems related to this. The morning pumping from Pachalam pump house to areas such as Cheranaloor, Mulavukaad, Panambukaad and Pachalam is inadequate. I think that most of the time water doesn’t reach the interior areas. They are largely dependent on tanker lorries.

there are also other two pump houses in this corporation. the one in Thammanam and the other in Perumanoor. These pump house are also falling short in meeting the demand. However, a 20 percent increase of water discharge to 280 MLD in the entire supply has come as a breather.

The statistics, however, don’t present a bright front. Kochi needs 200 lakh litres per day and the available quantity is short of 50 lakh litres. This 20-30 percent shortage in supply affects West Kochi residents the most.

Actually, the authorities claim that the situation will be improve in the coming months. But, personally, I dont have a clue how they are going to do so. I think the authorities assure that there won’t be a crisis in summer.

Oh yeah..there has been a really depressing water shortage problem in Kochi recently, even before the summer on its way. I think that the cochin corporation is facing an uphill task in overcoming the scarcity of water.

Hi, I am Ganesh. What about the stand of the authorities on this?
