The Tirunelveli firm will ensure the upkeep of the bypass till an operation, maintenance and tolling (OMT) contract is entered into. The new contracting firm will also have the added responsibility of collecting toll from motorists.A planned and properly thought out plan like this is bound to help make the connectivity better.
A friend told me that painting of pedestrian lines at major and minor junctions on the bypass and widening of service roads from the present 5.50 metres to 7 metres too have been proposed. Finally some improvement in the road connectivity is happening.
It will also have to remove encroachers and clamp down on haphazard parking with help from the police. A list of 200 unauthorised hoardings and those which pose a safety threat has been prepared. It is good to finally see some change in the city.
The contractor will have to take urgent steps to fill potholes on the bypass and service roads, restore road shoulders washed away in the rain to the level of tarred surface and ensure proper drainage.
A formal agreement will be inked with the contractor within a week. The NHAI has begun identifying accident-prone zones and road infrastructure that need better upkeep, sources associated with the project have said in the last few days.
Well from what i know, after receiving much flak for the shabby upkeep of the corridor despite collecting hefty toll from motorists, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has awarded a one-year operation and maintenance contract for Rs 1.19 crore.
Did you know that encroachments and obstructive parking has been choking service roads along the 16-km stretch. The contractor will also have to maintain the plants on the road median on the stretch between Vyttila and Aroor.
As far as i know, safety measures will be augmented on the Edappally-Aroor NH 47 Bypass as a Tirunelveli-based contractor has been tasked with the responsibility of maintaining the busy 16-km stretch. Good news, right?
