Road safety and road development projects in Kochi
Q: Hi, I wanted to know if there was any development going on in the public works department. especially the repairing and maintainance of roads in Kochi as these are in pathetic situation.
Oh yeah...the simulator uses computer software to mimic real life road situations and responds to driver inputs. It offers the learner an onscreen option to choose from a variety of climatic conditions, traffic situations and roads (highways or city roads) to drive.
I came to know that the simulator is a stationary car cabin with controls such as steering, gear, clutch, brake, etc. with multiple screens in front to give a real life driving situation using 3D imagery.
"I think that this simulator would help to learn and test the techniques, skills as well as the speed of response of the drivers under safe conditions. Simulator training familiarizes a trainee with the controls of a vehicle, helps him to learn correct driving practices, and gives him the initial confidence before he starts driving on the road.
"
The simulator is actually a good facility for tests for driving license. I think that the government order is required if the facility is to be used for issuing driving licences. Simulators are currently being used by many prominent driving institutes. But, for driving tests, it require trained men for operating the facility. That is why, it would take more time before the simulator becomes fully operational.
Oh yeah..but, the transport department has not formed a policy on the usage and purpose of the simulator facility till date. I think that once the simulator room gets the power connection on Friday, it will be ready for use,
Actually, the simulator facility is a facility that is meant to test those applying for a driving license. This will be inaugurated in a week or two, i guess. You know the process for installing the simulator started in June last year.
oh yes...i guess now the situation of the roads are pathetic. and yet, not even the regional transport officer in Kochi has formulated a plan yet. They even have no idea as to how to use the fully-automated Rs 40-lakh simulator which is nearing completion at Kakkanad civil station.
