Hmm.. i also came to know about this. Recently, it was in the news that about 1.5 cylinders of biogas could be prepared from the waste and the other waste is then used for vermin compost. This would really help the society also.
That's true. A biogas plant has also been set up there under Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) run by self-help groups and NGOs under the guidance of the village panchayat officials and DRDA who support the project financially and technically.
Recently, I came to know that there are 10 villages and 15 wards with a total population of 30,143, comprising 13,000 families with a floating population of 15,000. The unique feature of this project is the use of cows fed with vegetable waste which is converted into dung in 8 hours.
Yeah..More than 165 workers, including 18 differently-abled people, segregate the waste into degradable and non-degradable at the 1.5 acre land where the waste management sheds located in Kurudampalayam village panchayat function.
You know, the villages that are mentioned in this project currently dump its waste in an open area which causes stray dog menace and other sanitation issues, said a panchayat official. The implementation of this project would also help them generate employment.
The sheds would be set up within two months following which work would begin. Like the previous model, i think there are plans to rope in NGOs and SHGs to make it a sustainable project, also.
You know, there are also plan to add a few more innovative techniques such equipping the electric vehicles used to collect waste from households with GPS. The waste will also be recycled as far as I came to know.
We have begun setting up sheds in Madukkarai panchayat block following a similar model. But we need to complete our survey to ascertain the number of vehicles required, the type of waste generated and the size of the sheds.
Oh yeah..I think that this program will start by the end of April. I came to know that the program will be mostly organized under the initiative of the DRDO. They will set up sheds in these villages with an initial investment of 30 lakh in each village.Â
After the success of feeding organic waste to cows and using the dung to produce biogas in Kurudampalayam panchayat, the district rural development agency (DRDA) has decided to emulate the solid waste management programme in 25 other villages in Coimbatore district that come under three panchayat blocks of S S Kulam, Thondamuthur and Madukkarai.
Yeah..I think that the waste management is one among the agenda's in Coimbatore municipality's decisions. I think that along with the separation of waste, there are plans for reusing the waste to make biogas, and setting up of biogas plants also will be done.
