Virugambakkam is a residential neighborhood situated in the western parts of Chennai. It is an important residential locality famous for residences of film artists. This locality has some of Chennai’s best film studios. Earlier this residential colonies was a village covered with paddy fields, mango orchards, and casuarina trees. The locality has brought under the purview of Greater Chennai Corporation. As a result, lots of infrastructure projects have been planned. The civic amenities have also improved. This locality is sharing its boundaries with Saligramam, Koyambedu, MMDA Colony, Mogappair, Vanagaram, Valasaravakkam, Maduravoyal, Ayyapakkam, Anna Nagar, T Nagar, Alwartirunagar, Porur, Vadapalani, Kodambakkam among others. Lambert Nagar, Ayyavupuram, Ganpat Raj Nagar, Chinmaya Nagar, Shanmuga Nagar, AVM Colony, Elango Nagar, Devraj Nagar are some of the largest colonies comes within Virugambakkam.
