Narmada Phase III Project

Q: I’m planning to move to Indore soon. I’ve heard that the water supply conditions are not so good here. Will the Narmada Phase III project help in improving the water supply in Indore?

Hey, the water problem is not that severe in Indore now as it was a few years back. The Narmada Phase III project has increased the water supply to some degree, if not all the way, and its only getting better.
I don’t think you would face much water crisis problems as the IMC has recently started an extra 90mlds of water in addition to the previous 210mlds. So now the citizens of Indore will receive a total of 300 million litres of water every day from the Narmada projects. Further 25 mlds of water will be provided from the dams at Yeshwent Sagar and Bilawali

Indore already gets its water supply from the Narmada Phase I and II projects. The total water from these two projects is just about 180 million litres per day. With the Narmada Phase III project, Indore was supposed to get an additional 360 million litres of water every day.
Currently there is a problem with the Maheshwari dam; the water level needs to be a minimum of 162.20 meters to provide a supply of 360 mlds of water. The dam hasn’t been fully constructed yet to maintain the required level of water. So now it provides only 90 mlds of water to Indore in addition to the 120mlds provided by Phase I and II of the Narmada project

Hey, the water shortage in Indore is because of the sudden population growth in this city due to rapid development and urbanization. Once complete, the Narmada Phase III project will boost the total water supplied to the residents of Indore. The Maheshwari Power Hydel Plant is the one linked to the Narmada Phase III project and will be supplying an additional 360 million litres of water per day (mld) to people over Indore city.
