Rain Havoc in Indore

Q: Didn't the recent downpour cause a lot of damage in Indore? What are the civic authorities doing about it?

It's quite ironic because Indore has half the rainfall as compared to last year. Only 15% of it. And I don't think you should be blaming the IMC for every bad thing that happens in Indore because the citizens are equally responsible to the water logging problem. If they keep throwing garbage on the streets and plastic bottles, cans, food waste, wrapper, and what not, then the drains are bound to get water logged. Arre this mess is going to pollute our underground water also. But the IMC should have immediately demolished the 100 dilapidated buildings they listed before the monsoon. Only after a wall collapsed at Khatipura, that they immediately swung to action and demolished all the buildings. Mayor Mogdhe has already stated that the civic authorities are cleaning all the drains but despite this some minor problems will still remain. I'm sure in a few days, IMC will take care of a major chunk of the clean up work.

Yes heavy rains are upon Indore. There is a horrible waterlogging problem that is blocking all the drains. Debris from the streets are chocking the pipe and is not allowing the water on the roads to drain. It is becoming almost impossible to go outside because of the dirty muck on the streets and the insane evening traffic. A heavy rainfall should be a good thing! But why is the IMC making it so difficult for us to enjoy it without having to suffer because of it. I also think water logging issue has come because of poor garbage disposal system. Seriously, our garbage is not picked up for a very long time and there is so much litter on some streets like Talawali Chanda and Palasia even though they are supposedly prominent localities.

Do you really think so? The situation is pretty bad. The rains were a relief, yes but it also showed how unprepared the Indore Municipal Corporation was to deal with the heavy rains. Some old buildings that were in a bad condition actually collapsed for god's sake! And the 'very prestigious' BTRS corridor has inundations now. All 11 km of it. Many angry residents called the IMC office to do something about all this. But nothing has been done yet and it so difficult to commute to any part of the city. They should do something about this soooon!

It is pouring right now in Madhya Pradesh. Cities all over the state have been hit by the heavy rains including Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior, Ujjain and Chambal. Rains are going to continue like this for atleast the next 2 days. I think the people who had it best were the farmers of Indore. They managed to sow some good crops when the rains that started but the ones that had done it before the rains, are facing a rain impacts that affect their crops. This monsoon is very good because this year it was delayed and a week ago, it was scorching hot in Indore. This suddenly cooled down our city so all the residents are enjoying the weather right now. There was a little bit of damage on some bridges, but I'm sure the issue will be fixed soon.
