Q: hey can somebody tell me what the scene is with the bypass project that was supposed to happen on Perumbavoor road? Will this new infrastructure project help reduce the traffic congestion that this locality faces?
What the municipality as tried to do in Perumbavoor has actually been a fail so far. The recent one way route did little or nothing to help regulate traffic and only 10% of the total houses in Perumbavoor were given the compost pipes and biogas plant. According to me, a medical college and a traffic signal are the immediate requirements of this town. A medical college would do wonders as property worth would go up as more people demand for property here, especially people from high range areas. The government better efficiently use those 73 acres of Travancore Rayons land and proper scientific land use patters must be instilled. If not, Perumbavoor will def not be considered as the best place for investment in Kochi.
Now the municipality is actually dealing with waste management in a well-planned out manner. Waste generation in Perumbavoor has actually decreased from 12 tonnes to 4 tonnes per day. And 150 biogas plants and 1,000 pipe compost units were distributed that really helped matters related to waste disposal. Waste at the origin is also being segregated so this is a very good thing. But as of right now, this town has seriously become one of the most congested areas in the city and something must be done about this or the real estate potential along with real estate returns from investment will drastically decrease here.
Also 73 acres of Travancore Rayons, that used to be pride of Perumbavoor needs to be utilised efficiently because right now, land use is improper. This is another problem that needs to be dealt with in this locality. Health and safety of the migrant workers who reside here is another aspect that the municipality needs to look into. This town also has the potential to turn into a tourist destination if the right works are carried out. Municipality chairman thinks Iringole Kavu and Naganchery Mana are ideal places for tourism and he's right, because these are beautiful places that should also be utilised.
Even the chairman of Perumbavoor municipality has admitted that if this bypass project doesn't happen, then the development of Perumbavoor is sure to go nowehere and the locality would really lose it's esteemed name. This project was actually supposed to take place 12 years ago.But nothing has happened since then. It was costing 3 crores some years ago but now the total project cost is over 50 crores. There's actually going to be a new council pretty soon and they're planning on really giving this locality a face llift. The land acquisition for this project is 32 acres and that's not hard to get because most of the land is in the form of paddy and agriculture fields. Most of this land has already been acquired and hopefully work should start soon.
Hey so I really like this locality, especially since it has a diverse crowd of Indian people as residents, especially Indians from the north east. However, as Kochi started to experience rising population pressures, so did the infrastructural facilities in this locality. That's why something must be done about the intense traffic chaos that happens everyday during particularly during peak hour traffic time. These civic issues must soon be solved by the municipality. The municipality which formed in 1953 was known as land of timber industry and Travancore Rayons. But times have now changed as they have a lot of civic issues to rid Kochi off. This locality is in badly in need of the 2.7 km bypass from Palakkettu Thazham to Maruth Kavala on AM Road. This will definitely ease traffic congestion in this area.
