Yes but I think what the authorities have come up with for the land acquisition is interesting. They have claimed that whoever surrenders their land without charging anything will receive Transfer of Development Rights (TDR), which basically means that they will enjoy certain privileges in building rules throughout the state.

The land acquisition is often the biggest issue in widening projects like this. Generally the owners refuse to give up land so easily. They think that they will go into some kind of loss, or they charge an exorbitantly huge amount of money.

The main complaints were from the residents of Udayamperoor and Tripunithura. Since this is the connecting road between Ernakulum and Muvattupuzha, the government has decided to turn this 13.5 stretch into a 4-lane road. Anybody has any more information? Especially about the whole land acquisition thing,

You're right man. For those of who are not familiar with this road, it connects directly to the road leading to Kottayam. Now this one is a much wider road. So what happens is that there is a heavy inflow of traffic down this road, which tends to get stuck in the much narrower Vaikom road, creating a bottleneck. And it needs fixing immediately.

Actually this project was proposed almost 10 years ago. It has taken the authorities THAT long to finally implement it. The plan is to basically stretch this 12m wide road to a minimum of 22m. I think that is highly necessary.

It used to cause such frequent traffic jams. I’m glad that the authorities finally took note of this problem and decided to do something about it. From what Ive heard, the budget for this project is Rs 135 crores.

Hey, it is not too good to be true, this is actually happening! The development authorities are considering widening the Vaikom road, because it was such a narrow stretch of road.
