The structure at present in the IMC represents a hollow pyramidal structure. The technicians, engineers, sub-engineers, health officers who comprise the middle of the pyramid, and provide it the much-needed strength are missing and new ones need to be hired to get things running.
Ideally, given the increase in jurisdictional area and population, the workforce should also go up accordingly, but that area has so far been untouched and was not thought about because that would warrant for more finances which the corporation does not exactly have, as yet.
Hey, the IMC commissioner Rakesh Singh too has spoken about the lack of staff and has expressed his worries about redrawing the existing boundaries due to the shortage of workforce. The corporation has about 6,000 workers across all ranks.
As per the Act that was mentioned earlier here, the civic body will have to constitute at least 22 ward committees or zonal offices right now and restructure the existing sizes accordingly to meet the demand. Which is a difficult task.
According to Madhya Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act of 1956, the corporation must constitute ward committees, and the number of ward committees in a corporation should be equal to the population of the municipal area divided by one lakh.
The current number of wards around here is around 85 at present. Also the zonal offices around here all serve as a war committee. From 15 to 85 is a swift jump. But it all depends on how well they are managed.
You know how the situatio was before? Prior to the municipal elections, Indore had 15 zonal offices catering unevenly to 69 wards in the city. Not that is another problem IMC is an ineffecient unit sometimes. This new work could make it more glaring for them.
For all of that, things have been put in motion. As the mayor-in-council and the speaker have already been elected, the corporation is soon expected to restructure its zonal offices to speed up the work as there is a lot of ground fro them to cover.
This has now increased the workload of the Indore Municipal Corporation, which has to now constitute the ward committees and expand the jurisdiction of the existing zonal offices to include these 23 villlages freshly. That is some huge task ahead of them.
Yes, THose are some huge numbers. I Hope that the corporation will manage to maintain the newly given responsibilities. You know this additrion has also added over 2 to 3 lakh people to the already filled mix of population.
Do you know the current limites of the IMC? Earlier it was somewhere around just 137 sq km, but now ith the inclusion of the new villages it has reached over 269 sq. km which is almost the double of the previous limits.
You know the body is facing an herculean task right now. as they are trying to work things out ward by ward. They are severely under staffed for this and most of the workers are pulling overtimes.
Actually. The Indore Municipal Corporation has been going through a rough time right now with the addition of the new villages, of which there are 23. Now the situation has intensified and has escalated because of the sheer increase in the amount of work.
