If you ask me...all reusable and recyclable material should be collected and handed over to scrap dealers. If workers, who are employed to collect waste find these materials useful, residents shouldn't charge them for such material. I think this method should be practiced to promote the cleanliness in this city.
Moreover, incinerators were installed in many apartment complexes. I think that the Incinerators should be used only to burn sanitary waste. But, we found that residents burnt coconut shells and plastic in it.
I thought that decomposting and all are done in mostly done in many apartments till now. But, that is not true. Though compositing was being done by most apartment complexes, we could find plastic content in these. Reduction of plastic also needs to be done.
I am really happy with the way the system works in the Clean Kochi Project. There are various measures that are taken for effective disposal of organic waste, but expressed concerns about the "quality of composting".
Exactly...You know, some apartment residents have installed solar panels for heating water in kitchen and for outdoor lighting. This can be seen as a great achievement in the recent periods.
True...the plan was to make all this thing is to make it mandatory. Now, as all these have become mandatory, there are many builders who are now being forced to provide the facility to harvest rainwater and install sewage treatment plants (STP).
Exactly, water is also one of their main agendas. I think that while they depend on water supplied by Kerala water authority (KWA) for drinking, rainwater is harvested, treated and supplied for washing, cleaning toilets in individual dwelling units and for washing cars. Such efforts have become successful only because of community involvement.
You see...in my opinion this is a good program and this should be a role model for many other programs for the betterment of the residents in this region. I know that in some apartment complexes the owners' association have decided against buying water supplied by tanker trucks.
Exactly..you know, now even the children are being made aware of making the city clean. You can also see some active participation from the part of children also. Children can also be seen picking up plastic waste, cleaning and depositing them in appropriate bins.
I think that many waste management experts have been involved in this program. I think that in some apartment complexes women have started using cloth bags for shopping. It has helped to reduce the use of plastic carry bags.
One of the main thing about this campaign is the participation of the people. The participation and involvement of women and children in waste management programmes are encouraging. People understand the value of earth, water and air and the impact of waste and pollution on these.
Oh yeah..that's really true. There are plans from the part of the expert committee to include more programs for the betterment and the development of Kochi. The committee has shortlisted apartments that have implemented the best practices.Â
Yeah..i am really in support of this good initiative that is going on in Kochi. Recently, came to know that the expert committee was all praise for apartment associations for starting innovative practices in waste management, rainwater harvesting and saving energy.
I think that now, the last phase of the clean Kochi campaign is going on. The phase began recently only. You know, this is a great joint effort from the part of apartment residents came to the fore as the Clean Kochi Battle.
Hi, yeah..you know, I came to know that this is a very good movement by the residents and the authorities to figure out the problem of lack of cleanliness and waste problem in Kochi. I think this is going to be over soon.
