Hi, did you know…starting from May 1, users’ fee will be levied for collecting waste from shops, in order to promote decentralised waste management. A bylaw will be formulated soon on waste management.
A feasibility study will be conducted on the ‘Sky-walk’ project. Rs 3 cr has been allocated for the 40-feet Palluruthy Road, and division fund of Rs 50 lakh was announced for each ward.
I also came to know that Mayor Tony Chammany agreed to enlist the alternative Budget proposals put forth by the Opposition. Rs 1 crore was allocated for strengthening the Brahmapuram waste treatment plant.
That is true. But as far as my information goes, except for a minor correction in a Budget presented during an LDF rule earlier, Budget figures were never revised in the history of the Kochi Corporation on the day of passing.
Actually, this was made to tally with the projected expenditure of Rs 20 crore each under the heads of ‘Road and Bridges’ and ‘Sewerage and Drainage. I think that after the revision, the expected income and expenditure stand at Rs 921.54 cr and Rs 881.87 cr, respectively, which were previously Rs 881.54 cr and Rs 841.87 cr.
I think that the balance sheet did not tally owing to the disparities. Concerned over the disparities that propped up in the two-day-long Budget discussions, Deputy Mayor B Bhadra revised the Budget estimates to include an additional revenue of Rs 40 crore.
You know what, While a Rs 40 crore expenditure was projected under the head ‘Roads and Bridges Development’, there was no indication of the revenue source. An unrealistic projection of Rs 2 cr was shown under the head ‘Miscellaneous’, despite the fact that the local body’s actual collection in this head for 2013-14 was only Rs 85,000.
Exactly...While the ruling UDF projected it as victory of participatory democracy, the LDF termed it as a political walkover on the ruling party. The rarity of revising the estimates was forced upon the UDF-led local body after the Opposition pointed out several mistakes in the Budget.
One thing to note is that the ruling council also accepted almost all of the proposals in the ‘alternative budget’ that was tabled by the Opposition, for addressing the crucial civic issues that missed mention in the original Budget.
I think the deputy mayor recently said that we expect to collect Rs. 10 crores through property tax collection. Rs. 10 Crores through property tax enforcement. Rs. 10 Crores through professional tax. Rs. 2 crores as advertisement tax with the help of Kudumbashree. Rs. 3 crores as entertainment tax and rs. 5 crores as taxes on hoarding.
Oh..that's true. I came to know that after the revision, the expected income and expenditure stand at Rs. 921.54 crores and Rs. 881.87 crores respectively. In the previous phase, this was rs. 881.54 crores, and Rs. 841.87 crores.
You know what, the budget for the Kochi corporation this year was marred by controversies. Except for a minor correction in a budget presented during the LDF rule earlier, I think the budget figures were never revised in the history of Kochi corporation on the day of passing.
Actually, the budget plans were not passed yet. But even before passing it, they had to change it, after the opposition pointed out some very serious disparities in the statements in the budget.
Hey, yes, this is true. I think that Mayor Tony Chammany and his team is now facing an embarrassing situation when the ruling council of Kochi corporation were forced to revise the budget plans for this financial year.
