Q: I've heard that the Coimbatore Civic Authorities have become quite strict when it comes to dealing with real estate tax defaulters in Nanjundapuram. Can anyone give me details on this? I'm moving there, so I need to know everything I can. Thankyou!
The coimbatore civic corporation is currently involved in putting up banners and spreading awareness about this new rule to all the residents. At least they are trying to inform everybody instead of blindly taking action without even mentioning it to any of the residents. People might feel edgy to move to Nanjandanpuram now because of this but I'm sure this problem will be dealt with the same way all over Coimbatore. Atleast, by the end of this, if everybody adheres and pays the tax, then maybe Coimbatore can finally enjoy some improved civic facilities in the area.
I think this cutting of the water supply is very harsh action made by civic authorities. There are about 600 families residing in the apartment complexes and there is no way that the corporation can ensure simultaneously that all families have paid the property tax on time. I even spoke to someone from the Ramanathapuram Resident's Welfare Assoiation who feels the same way. The tax defaulter also has to face a penalty of Rs. 25000 and all the other residents also have to end up suffering with him. This is not the right way to go about things!
Everybody in Nanjundapuram had mixed reviews about this new rule. Some thought that this was the best way to make sure that all residents will pay the property tax, as long as prior notices were given. Others thought this was a very inconvenient method for all the other residents who had paid property tax. Especially since that once you cut the water supply, it will take 3 to 4 weeks just to refix the severed water supply. Residents feel that the civic authorities should provide immediate supply once the tax defaulters amount has been paid.
You will not believe how stringent the Coimbatore civic authorities have become. Just so that they can make sure that no residents ever evades property tax for the apartment, they have stated that they would cut off the water supply line for the entire apartment complex even if there is one tax defaulter in the apartment complex. This is so that the last quarter of the financial year of 2013 to 2014 runs smoothly, and the civic authorities will not tolerate anyone who does not pay them the tax. They have also sent notices to all the representatives of these apartment complexes so that they can take the initiative to ensure that all residents have payed the tax. I really think people are going to lose interest in living in Nanjundapuram if this is the case.
