Q: Hi, anyone here who can tell me how I can pay property tax for a piece of land I own in Mysore? I bought it several years ago, but have been unable to pay property tax on it. I need help on the procedure to do it.

Latest Answer: The property tax is usually paid at the zonal offices. There are seven zonal offices of the Mysore City Corporation all over Mysore. Different ward numbers have been allotted to each office. You need to go to the zonal office that offers civic service to your ward and make the payment. You have to collect the SAS forms in the office itself and fill them up correctly. You can also get this done by the officials by paying a charge of Rs 25. Once you make the payment against the filled form, you will receive a challan. This challan needs to be stamped by any official for the payment to be accepted.

Q: Hello guys, I heard that the Mysore City Corporation is on its drive to collect property tax for this year. can anyone give some information about the trend in property tax collection by the MCC? Is there any penalty for late payments?

Latest Answer: Oh, I heard that the authorities are providing their phone numbers to the property owners. this is intended to provide some more comfort for the owners in tax payment. If the owners are not able to visit the Mysore City Corporation zonal office, then they can give the authorities a call and they will come to their doorsteps to collect the tax!!

Q: How can I pay property tax in Mysore?
Latest Answer: The payment system at the zonal offices is a very confusing procedure. It is better to pay the tax at the bank. Mysore City Corporation has started a new system of property tax payment at different branches of certain banks, like State Bank of Mysore, Vijaya Bank, ING Vysya, and Syndicate Bank. You can go to any branch of any of these four banks and deposit money in the MCC account for that bank. The MCC has been working on starting up a system of online property tax payment from 2010. But they haven’t been able to put up the facility on the website as of now.

Q: What are the property registration charges in Mysore?
Latest Answer: Don’t depend on the agent too much on these matters. It is better if you yourself can do the payment and take the receipt of the payment. The registration fee is 1% of the property value in Mysore, in case of sale of property. In addition to this, the Mysore City Corporation (MCC) has introduced a 2% fee chargeable on the sale deed. If you acquire the property as a gift deed from a family member, then you will have to pay a registration fee of just Rs 500.

Q: What is Aasthi tax in Mysore, and how can I calculate it?
Latest Answer: Hey, Aasthi is the property tax that is levied on immovable property by the Mysore City Corporation. According to the Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act, property tax remains constant for three years, then increases by 15%. So all you have to do is pay the same amount for three years, then increase it by 15%, and pay that amount for next three years and so on. You can also go to the zonal office to get it calculated by paying an extra Rs 25 to Rs 50. That is unnecessary as you can do it by yourself.
