At 2 cents per paper napkin your family can save $1.68 a week by switching to cloth. The paper industry contributes to forest clear cutting which results in erosion, sedimentation of streams and loss of habitat. Polythene bags are a complete menace to environment through its whole life cycle. They block air and hence does not let your fruit and vegetables breathe. Then they dont burn and create lots of smoke. The unburnt Ploythene bags block sewage pipes too and create havoc like Mumbai floods. In order to maximize the reuse/ recycle from the household garbage, it is advisable that garbage is segregated and then disposed into 3 categories , (1) Green/ Biodegradable- kitchen waste which can be reused as manure (2) Recyclable waste- Paper, Tin cans , bottles-which can be resold to the recycler and (3) Non Biodgradable/ Non recyclable- broken crockery, tubelights etc. which cannot be reclyed. Do not use water more than you need. Take your car to car wash. They recycle water for watering plants and garden. If you are washing them yourself, use a bucket and sponge which helps in saving good amount of water.

Salts are earth friendly weed killer, use 1 part of salt with 3 parts of boiling water and pour directly on weeds to kill them. To kill bacteria on cutting board, rub salt into your cutting board after a little while rinse them. Your cutting board will be bacteria free and smells fresh.
